Four Asian New Zealanders shared powerful lived-experience stories at the Asian Mental Health & Wellbeing Summit 2026, highlighting the impact of cultural stigma, language barriers, addiction, gambling harm and social isolation. Bringing together more than 180 leaders and professionals, the summit called for greater action to ensure growing recognition of Asian mental health needs translates into culturally responsive services, meaningful investment and measurable outcomes.

The 2026 New Zealand Asian Well-being & Mental Health Report provides a national snapshot of Asian communities’ well-being, mental health, experiences of discrimination, and access to culturally responsive support, highlighting that while some areas have improved, significant challenges and inequities remain.

Asian Family Services welcomes the New Zealand Government’s Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy 2026–2036. The strategy marks an important step toward recognising the mental health, addiction and gambling harm needs of Asian communities, including the language and cultural barriers many people face when accessing support.

Auckland, New Zealand — Asian Family Services (AFS) marked a significant milestone by hosting the inaugural Flourishing Asian Communities & Workforce Symposium on 13 March 2026. The event brought together more than 200 health professionals, policymakers, researchers, educators, funders, and community leaders from across Aotearoa.

Wellington, New Zealand – The Asian Mental Health and Wellbeing Summit 2025, themed “Elevating Unheard Voices of Asian Youth-A Call to Action,” brought together 120 participants, including young people, policymakers, researchers, educators, funders, health professionals, and community leaders, for an event dedicated to discussing and improving mental health outcomes for Asian youth in Aotearoa New Zealand.
